Research Interests: Assimilation of surface and
atmospheric observations into numerical weather prediction models;
mesoscale weather phenomena.
Current pursuits: Planning and coordination
for the U.S. Weather Research Program; Helping to plan improvements to
global and regional observing systems with the World Meteorological
Organization and the U.S. National Weather Service; Assisting the
Temperature and Air Quality Project in New England; Developing and
enhancing model-based products for the FAA's Aviation Weather Research
Program; Assisting in development of the Weather Research and Forecasting
(WRF) model
Awards:
- Councilor of the
American Meteorological Society, 2000-2003
- Fellow of the
American Meteorological Society, 2002
- Department of
Commerce Bronze Award, 1999, for shared role in development of the Rapid
Update Cycle, an hourly data assimilation and short-term prediction
system operational at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction
